With its ongoing example of a company developing software for parking lot pay stations, this text is for use in courses with a strong emphasis on practical software development. The next sections present core practices, concepts, and tools for designing flexible and reliable software, using the ongoing case example. The book then provides a design pattern catalogue. Two final projects require students to develop large systems through a set of assignments. Students should have experience with Java, C#, or other object-oriented languages, and should be familiar with UML class and sequence diagrams.
